There is nothing more depressing than spending hours working on a poem and getting nowhere with it. I've been doing a lot of that lately. However I have been reading my five poets and enjoying becoming familiar with the poems in the respective collections. So far I've been mostly reading between Celan, Pound and Stevens.
In case anyone is interested, these are the poetry collections I'm working through:

Yes, I'm in the same place. I like your five collections idea - I'm doing something similar, may post about it later.

I can't force poetry. I can bully prose into submission any day of the week but not poetry. I write as much as I can and then save it in a folder on my desktop which I open up ever now and then and work on a piece pretty much at random. Sometimes I look at it and realise that it was finished after all, sometimes I change a few words here and there and sometimes I go, "Meh," and try another one.

roxana, I think it might be sperm under a microscope!! :)
I have a thing for the retro faber covers, I'd love to start collecting them!

elizabeth, it's a rubbish place to be, isn't it? interested to see who you're reading.

jim, tell me about it! it's trying to capture the moment of inspiration without killing it with over analysis before I've even written anything.
