To the delight of Plath and Hughes scholars and enthusiasts, a few days ago a large number of Hughes' papers were acquired by the British Library. Peter Steinberg, who runs the Sylvia Plath Info blog, has an excellent post here on why having access to these papers is not just a form of voyeurism, though no doubt it will be to some, but of real interest and value to academics and fans of the work of the greatest literary couple of the twentieth century.

Jane Holland, editor of Horizon Review , will be on the BBC Radio 4 programme 'Start the Week' this Monday at 9am where she will be talking about the literary webzine.

Thanks Sorlil. You always find fascinating links. Hughes and Plath are probably the only two poets whose photographs could appear on the front page of The Times and be instantly recognised.

For sure, and yet despite what some people say I really don't think there would still be so much interest in their personal tragedies if it weren't for the fact that they were both first and foremost such fantastic, gifted poets.

Just as a little unneeded evidence of the basic vulgarity of the media, I caught mention in one of the posh Sundays (frustratingly I can't remember which) of Hughes and Plath as the Posh and Becks of poetry. Droll, eh?

Hughes, Plath and ... Holland.

Many thanks for linking me into this post about two poets who have been amongst my greatest influences as a writer (and as a person, rather more scarily).

Wish me luck tomorrow - I've done plenty of radio before, including Woman's Hour, but never something as artily highbrow as Start the Week. Have to put on my best intellectual's hat for this one, and hope no one looks underneath! Jx

I am so fortunate to have stumbled upon this blog post of yours, which has lead me to a pirates' chest of immeasurable wealth -- the Sylvia Plath Info blog. I am, at this very moment, no different from a four-year old who has found something shiny and smooth on the shore. Thank you!
